Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are —yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. Hebrews 4:14-16
I heard that Hebrews is one of the most powerful books of the bible… Today, I thought it wise to study the entire book over and over and over… I encourage you to do the same.
Whilst reading, these three verses of Hebrews chapter 4 struck me. It struck me because just like so many Christians, I often have fallen into that messy web of sin and many times Christianity and even God started seeming like something that was unattainable… Was it possible not to get angry or say the wrong words, was it possible to always live right and bring other people to God, was it possible to enjoy the beauty of having God without feeling the weight of the laws, the commandments… It seemed like I just kept trying and trying and trying. Funny the more I tried, the harder it seemed, the farther my father seemed from me.
Today I found an amazing key to that struggle. Once we realize that we are nothing without God, that our lives are embedded in him and that we live for him alone, once we profess that we are Christians we have as Hebrews says someone that empathizes with us, someone who knows that we are weak and frail, someone who in himself has been tempted before just as we are…
And it doesn’t end there; it says we have that right; we have the authority as Christians during that moment of temptation to approach God with all confidence so that we may receive mercy and find grace in our time of need…. Do you know what this means? It means that God does not only feel our pain, he says to us at that time of need all you have to do is call on me… Yes you are tempted but come to me boldly and tell me what troubles you, tell me that thing that tempts you and yes I have enough mercy and grace to go around in that time of your need… The passage says simply… Stop trying to be perfect, stop trying not to sin, stop trying to fight that temptation come to me and give me that burden. You cannot on your own do it…. You are human and I am God, give it to me!
Amazing! Amazing the grace that we have through him…
Amazing the love he so freely gives
Amazing that he thinks of us even when we are weak….
Amazing the feeling I have right now just sharing this……
