Peace is……..an entirely harmonious act, in which all our powers and affections are blending in a beautiful proportion and sustain and perfect one another. It is more than the silence after the storms; it is as the concord of all melodious sounds….
William Ellery Channing
For a few days, I have had a smile on- a smile that I have found hard to explain to a lot of people. It is the sort of smile that a man wears after eating his best meal, the sort of smile that a mother wears seeing her first child graduate, the sort of smile I am wearing now while typing this. It is a smile that says happiness.
In the “few” years of my life, I have come to understand that very few things can equate to a happiness that comes from within and very few things can compare to the feeling of joy that knows no bounds. Life in itself was created in such a manner that most actions of a man are geared towards a final result of feeling and being happy.
I feel compelled to share this with you because I have known the other side of the coin. Many days, I have fought sadness, depression, restlessness and nagging pain. Worse, for a very long time, I felt virtually nothing. I could not distinguish between joy, sadness, sweet and bitter, I only lived.
Until again God wrapped me so tightly in his arms that I could not get away, so squeezed was I that I could hardly breathe. Then again, I felt a love so warm, so sweet, so amazing that I could not imagine a life without God’s Love.
Over and over, I see and listen to people who like me struggle everyday with various insecurities, Christians who are struggling in the faith and worse, humans who have no real joy- no real happiness- nothing to hold on to- no warmth. The beautiful thing about God is that irrespective of who we are, what we have become, the filth within and without, God always has a space in his heart to love us if we will allow him- He has the capacity to turn our filth into a beauty unimaginable if only we will let him.
Life is so short. Life is so so short.
We cannot afford to live without the joy, the happiness, the peace and fulfillment that God alone affords.
I invite you to feel the warmth of God’s love again.
